Here’s the thing, if you’re working minimum wage, you’re getting a low pay for a reason. These jobs are not setup to be “livable wage” jobs. They’re supposed to be part-time and temporary allowance gigs for youth to get some basic work experience while attending school.
Oh, but you currently can’t afford to pay for all the unnecessary extra things that you want in life like the latest smartphone upgrades? A mandatory wage increase will not solve all your financial problems. That’s on you to become responsible. Wages are proportional to the cost of living. If wages increase, so does the cost to make products and the cost of services. Everything goes up.
The cost of living isn’t the only consequence. Potential entrepreneurs will be non-existent as a result of wage increases too. Think about it. How is any young person supposed to open up a shop and hire workers when the lowest amount of money they would have to pay workers is set at a ridiculous high? It would be impossible for any new small businesses to survive.
It’s a widespread misunderstanding that higher minimum wages means more money for everyone, it actually means less. Wage standards and market prices go hand in hand. High minimum wages forces small business owners to lay off more employees and bigger companies to simply invest in machines, such as self-serve cashier machines to replace workers.
Oh, yeah, you protesters are really “sticking it to the man” by ruining the chances of any new entrepreneurs from ever becoming successful. Now all these corporations you’re so against just got an unbreakable monopoly over every potential competitor due to your nonsense. Good job!
Look, it’s one thing if YOU don’t aspire to become a business owner, but it’s another to destroy that opportunity for others who are willing or would be willing to put in the risks as businessmen and women.
Aside from hurting small business owners and corporations alike, minimum wage hikes only incentivize entrepreneurs to replace workers with self-serve machines. In the long run, it’s much more cheaper and efficient to invest in self-serve kiosks than to pay ridiculous wages to employees for jobs that should be paid little to begin with. Way to decrease your job opportunities!
Do we really want to leave behind a world that limits future generations from having as much freedoms and options as we currently do thanks to our capitalist society you want to destroy so badly?
What incentives would anyone have to become doctors, lawyers or scientists if everyone could theoretically comfortably live off minimum wage? It’s a myth that everyone would be well-off earning the same wages as everyone else. Just look at any socialist or communist country that’s ever existed. The policies sound nice in theory, but don’t work in practice.
If everyone only worked unskilled jobs and nothing more, society as we know it would collapse. We’d have no doctors to save lives, no lawyers to uphold our laws and defend our rights and no scientific researchers working to find cures for anything.
It’s called “minimum wage” for a reason, unfortunately if you can accept earning the bare minimum, then you should be willing to accept the bare minimum in all other aspects of your life as well. Don’t be that person. Work hard and earn something for yourself. Stop telling yourself you can’t. Is wanting you to be the best person you can possibly be too much to ask?
Whatever happened to striving for greatness? What’s with these grown-ass adults protesting on the streets demanding other people for more undeserved money? If only these professional victims worked half as hard on their work ethic as they did protesting, maybe they wouldn’t have to continuously protest such nonsensical causes in the first place? Life’s hard. Grow up already.
